AIDE TECHNICAL SKILLS
Description: Students will learn: Community Health Care; the Role
of a Nurse Aide; Consumer Rights and Responsibilities in Health
Care; Ethical and Legal Issues affecting the Nurse Aide; Medical
Terminology and Body Organization; Classification of Diseases;
Communication Skills; Observation; Reporting and Documentation;
Meeting Basic Human Needs; Infection and Infection Control; Patient
Safety; Ambulation, Pulse and Respiration; Blood Pressure; Measuring
Height and Weight; Patient Care and comfort Measures; Principles
of Nutrition and Fluid balance; Special Care Procedures; Other
Health Care Settings and the expanded role of the Certified Nurse
Aide. PH
LEBOTOMY
Description: This class will teach students diagnostic blood sampling,
blood components, universal precautions and venipuncture technique.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION/FIRST-AID
Description: Students will be trained to respond to emergencies
using first aid techniques with special emphasis on child and
adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). CLINICAL
PRACTICE
Description: The clinical practice component of the Certified
Nurse Aide program affords participants an opportunity to put
into practice theory learned in the classroom. During the clinical
experience, program participants become socialized into the medical
community. This is a required component of the training. ELECTROCARDIOGRAPH
(EKG) USAGE AND READING
Description: Participants will learn to operate an electrocardiograph
machine and obtain readings for physician's interpretation.
WORK
CULTURE/LIFE SKILLS
Description: This component will assist participants in learning
about themselves and the world of work. Through a series of discussions,
career guidance and other tools, participants will explore the
following topics: job search strategies, job campaign preparation,
interviewing, techniques strategies for success, self exploration,
understanding life roles, time management, risk taking, decision
making, stress management and financial planning.
