CHECKLIST FOR REQUESTING RECOMMENDATIONS FROM YOUR PROFESSORS/ADVISORS
Avoid asking for a recommendation letter by email. Always try to make an appointment to speak with the person.
Give your references 1-2 months advance notice to write the recommendation. Remember that professionals lead very busy lives.
Provide your e-mail address and phone number.
Tell the specific major/program/college for which you are applying, and attach your resume.
In your request include past accomplishments, current activities, including professional goals.
Make the process is easy for your professor; include the deadline by which the letter must be received.
Provide one stamped and addressed envelope for each college/university for which you have submitted an application.

Write a thank you note/letter to the person/s that recommended you.
Keep in touch with your references! You may want them to recommend you again in the future.
**Please note that your Advisor/Professor is not required to write you a letter of recommendation.
