New Student Seminar

The New Student Seminar, offered by the counseling Department, is designed to facilitate first semester students' transition and adjustment to college. The seminar meets for one hour a wek during the twelve week session and is taught by a Counselor.

As part of students' major requirements, the New Student Seminar is an essential starting point for increasing students' awareness of the kinds of critical decisions they will be required to make in their first semester as well as in the months ahead. Thus, the topics covered in the weekly class sessions may include: goal setting, college services and resources to support student sucess; study skills and test-taking strategies; academic policies and procedures to be followed; exploring career opportunities in the major; developing a sound academic plan; to name just a few.

The Counselor teaching the seminar is also available outside of the class time for individual appointments for academica, career, or personal counseling services. For more information, contact Professor Joan Edmonds, Counseling Department, Room C-245, tel. 718-482-5250
