Meet Our Directors and Staff
Ellen Quish -
Sielp Director
I am the director of
the program. I have been in the field of ESOL for nineteen years. I have
worked with SIELP since it started in 1997. My favorite part of SIELP is
getting to know students and watching them enjoy learning. I received a
BA in Public Justice and Spanish from SUNY Oswego and a MA in TESOL from
the School for International Training in Vermont. I have traveled
extensively around the world and I love being the mother of Liam, age 5.
Mae
Dick
- A.L.C. Director
I have worked in the
field of Adult Education for the past 30 years.
My BA is from Hunter College and my M.S.W is from
New York University with a concentration
in community organization. I
also moved to the central office of the City University of New York
where I provided oversight to a number of adult education projects
including CUNY’s BEGIN programs. I spent my last year at CUNY Central
directing and education projects including members of the Health and
Hospital Workers Union (1999). I left that job in the summer of
1999. Since that time I have been directing the Adult Learning Center at LaGuardia
Community College, and Adult Literacy Program serving 1,200 students a
year.
Marzena Bugaj
- G.E.D. Director
My name is Marzena.
I have been a G.E.D. (High School Equivalency) coordinator
for three years. This helps people that didn’t finish school to get
their diplomas. I like to work with young people and help them to
achieve their goals. To be able to get diplomas, you have to pass five
subject tests; the placement test (Reading Test) is one of them. After
the tests you will be put into a different levels, based on you test
scores.
Migdalia Ramos
- A.L.C. Manager
Hi my name is
Migdalia Ramos. I have a beautiful family. I have two teenager boys and
a gorgeous girl. I’ve been working at LaGuardia Community College for 16
years. I can honestly say, I really love and enjoy what I do at work. I
am the Office Manager at the Adult Learning Center. Throughout my
years in this program, I have grown to become a better person working
with different people from different cultures. There is so much to
learn. It has been a learning experience for me. It’s a wonderful place
to be.
