Meet Our Reading & Writing Teachers

Kate Johnson

Hello, my name is Kate Johnson. I am excited to be teaching Reading and Writing at SIELP for the first time. I have taught ESL and writing at local colleges and in Spain. I have an A in English literature, and I am working on one in TESOL. I speak French and Spanish. I have lived in Montreal, Arizona, and Madrid, and traveled recently to Mexico, France, and the French West Indies. I hope to keep traveling!

 John H. Olthoff

I am John Olthoff.  I graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing a long time ago, and I also have a Mater’s degree in Education from CUNY Lehman College. I’ve taught ESL for the past 10 years, but this is my first at SIELP. I’m very happy to be here and to meet so many great students. I really think SIELP is a great way for students to spend their summers, especially when the air conditioning is working!

Sherry Mason

I am a new reading and writing teacher at SIELP. During the year, I teach at NYU. I love running, riding my bike and playing with my dog Smudge. The best part of teaching is watching the students grow into the best writers and thinkers they can be. My summer at SIELP has been rewarding.
