    What is the Women's Center?

    We provide supportive and educational services promoting the growth and development of LaGuardia women. Using a Holistic Personal Wellness Model we implement programming taking into account some of the most important aspects of a student’s life:

    • Social/Environmental
    • Intellectual & Academic
    • Emotional & Spiritual 

    In addition to Personal Wellness, which includes themed group and individual sessions, the Women’s Center facilitates provide:

    National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Workshop
    Wednesday, October 7
    12 Noon - 1 PM

     In observance of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
    Join the Women’s Center, the Health Center & the Nursing Club as we host an informational session on breast cancer:  risk factors and preventative measures. Because remember, it can happen at any time in your life: You don’t have to be your grandmother’s age to get the disease.  Receive a beautiful FREE Lace Bracelet and other Breast Cancer Awareness giveaways for attending. Resources will be available. Light refreshments will be served.

    In observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month, join the Women’s Center in welcoming award-winning local Latina artist, Tanya Torres, as she leads participants in a handmade artisanal jewelry-making workshop. Leave with your own original piece of jewelry! All materials will be provided. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. 
    Consent and Coercion: Navigating Healthy Sexual Relationships
    Wednesday, October 14 
    2 PM – 3 PM

    Join the Women’s Center and the DayOne NYC organization as we address the meaning of consent and how to deal with a partner who does not want to practice safe sex behaviors. This workshop also explores the connection between healthy sexual behavior and safe relationships.  Light refreshments will be served. 
    Intimate Partner Violence 101 & Healthy Relationships workshops

    In observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, educate yourself regarding the telltale warning signs of an abusive relationship (be they obvious or not) and learn what comprises a really healthy relationship. On and off campus resources will be available. Light refreshments will be served.

    A Depression Awareness and Coping Strategies Workshop

    Put your stress to rest! Join the Women’s Center and become aware of the stressors leading to depression and learn various coping strategies to help work through it. Self-assessment tools as well as internal and external resources for personal wellness will be provided. Refreshments will be served.



    Gentle Yoga
    Wednesdays, starting September 30 through December 9
    1 PM – 2 PM

    Join Master Yoga Instructor, Jamie Lyn as she leads a most relaxing gentle yoga class where all levels are welcome. We provide mats and blocks or bring your own. Wear loose comfortable clothing.

    Thursdays, starting October 1 through December 3
    6:30 PM – 8 PM

    Come learn how to knit or crochet and talk about a variety of topics from relationships and schoolwork to movies and family life we cover a variety of topics while creating beautiful infinity scarves, hats, mittens and throws.  We provide FREE supplies from needles to yarn and lessons included.

    What about men? Can male students become involved in the Women's Center?

    We encourage all students to become involved and participate in Women’s Center activities. The Women's Center is committed to serving all students without regard to gender, race, religion, age, or sexual orientation.
