Single Stop USA has partnered with the LaGuardia Community College to provide students and their families with access to benefits and services needed to help students stay in school and graduate.  The Single Stop USA program is located in the Enrollment Services Center, Room C-107 in the C-building.  Our hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Fridays by appointment only.  Walk-ins are always welcome, but we recommend making an appointment if possible.  Our services are free to students and their families, and we have strong relationships with many programs at LaGuardia Community College and throughout the community.

Free Benefits Screening

Are you and your family struggling financially?  Do you need health insurance, assistance with rent, food or childcare?   Single Stop can help.  Through a series of simple questions in a safe, confidential environment, we can help you determine if you qualify for special benefits to help you and your family.  Our team of professionals is here to help you with every step of the benefits application process.  If you qualify, we will assist you with completing the application, give you all the information you will need about necessary documents, and make sure you are as prepared as possible for a successful outcome.  A special service we now offer is that if you qualify for the SNAP program, (Supplmental Nutrition Assistance Program) also known as Food Stamps, you can apply directly for food stamps in our offices.

If you are already receiving services such as food stamps, Medicaid, Temporary Assistance, etc. and need help with recertifying or are having issues maintaining your benefits, the Single Stop team can help you resolve these problems directly in our offices and save you the aggravation and hassle of having to go to an HRA office.  We have direct contact numbers for managers and are able to fix many problems and clarify misunderstandings right here in our offices.

Free Tax Preparation Services

Earn your maximum refund!! Completely free tax preparation and E-File submission through this special IRS approved program for both state and federal taxes is available to students and their families. The Tax season for 2012 at LaGuardia Community College is currently located in room C109.  LaGuardia students and their families can prepare their taxes for FREE.  Tax preparation is Monday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am - 5pm.  No appointment is necessary.  Please remember to bring a photo ID, social security cards or ITINs for everyone who will be on your taxes, W-2, 1099's, etc.  If you have any questions regarding tax preparation please contact the Single Stop Office 718.482.5135/5129.

Free Financial Coaching 

Do you need help managing your money? Are you struggling with debt? Do you need help dealing with aggressive creditors?  Never had a credit card?  Through this free financial counseling program you will learn lifelong strategies to save money, build your assets, get help with debt management and learn about best banking practices.We can also help you to get your free credit report and credit score, establish credit if you have none, and improve your credit scores. We specialize in one-on-one, private counseling services to help you establish and achieve your financial goals. Come and meet with our financial experts, Ilan Folman-Cohen or Karen Goodheart.  Appointments are available every Wednesday from 2:30 a.m. to 5 p.m or Thursday from 9:30 am - 5pm. Free Legal Services

Do you need help with any legal issues? The Financial Clinic partners with Single Stop USA to provide one-on-one financial coaching, free benefit screenings, and legal services at LaGuardia Community College. Staff Attorney Sara Monzet is available on campus each Tuesday from 9:30am to
5:00pm (by appointment only) to discuss legal issues with students and their family members that jeopardize students' financial security, including debt collection, bankruptcy filing, federal and state tax liabilities, loan modification and foreclosure defenses, benefits eligibility, and student loan repayment plans. She can also provide referral information for legal help with divorce and child support payments matters, landlord/tenant issues, immigration and other general legal matters.
