Please check your student email regularly for important announcements from Student Financial Services. We encourage you to start planning your financial aid for the year ahead!


You can file your FAFSA beginning January 2nd for the upcoming academic year of Fall 2014 – Spring 2015 

Step 1

  • >Gather your 2013 income tax returns (and your parent’s, if applicable), W2 forms and other records of income. 
  • Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) online at www.pin.ed.gov. This will provide your electronic signature on your FAFSA application. 
  • Have your parent apply for a PIN online. This will provide your parent’s electronic signature on your FAFSA application. 

Step 2

  • Complete your FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • If you are a New York State resident, you can link directly to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application from the FAFSA submission confirmation page. If you miss the link, you can complete your TAP application after three days by visitingwww.hesc.ny.gov 

Step 3

  • Review your Student Aid Report (SAR), which is sent via email or postal mail after you’ve completed your FAFSA.  
  • If you been selected for verification, you will be required to complete a verification worksheet and submit tax documents (IRS Tax Transcript, W2s, etc.) to Student Financial Services in C107. 

Step 4

  • Submit any requested documents to the Student Financial Services in C107.


Student Financial Services Resource Center C109 

You are invited to visit our Resource Center in C109 to obtain financial aid information and use our services. We can help you:

  • File your online FAFSA and TAP applications
  • Obtain an electronic PIN
  • Complete the Federal Student Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN)
  • Complete the Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling
  • Request an IRS tax transcript
  • Apply for a Foundation Scholarship
  • Complete the Federal Work Study Orientation
  • Review your Federal loans and/or grant data on The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

 How to Check Your Financial Aid on CUNYfirst 

1. Log in to your CUNYfirst account at www.laguardia.edu/CUNYFirst.
2. Click to expand the Self Service options, and select Student Center.
3. Under the Finances section, click Account Inquiry.
On the Account Inquiry screen you will look for your Pending Financial Aid. You may also view your account activity, current balance after Financial Aid, a detailed list of charges, payments and refund amount.


Federal Direct Loans 

To students who registered for Intent to Graduate: Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! You have accomplished so much, and you are ready to move on to your next venture. We want to make sure that nothing stops you from achieving your future goals. The Federal Government requires that upon graduation, student loan recipients must complete an Exit Loan Interview. It is a student’s responsibility to repay all student loans. The Exit Loan Interview will give you the information and tools that you need.

Complete your required Exit Loan Counseling online at www.NSLDS.ed.gov and submit the confirmation page to Student Financial Services in C107.


Federal Work Study 

The Federal Work Study program allows students to earn money while gaining valuable experience on or off campus. If you are interested in participating in the program, please make sure that you confirm your answer to the question on your FAFSA application to be considered for 2014-15 academic year.
