All courses are designed for Deaf students who
communicate in American Sign Language and wish to have an
opportunity for vocational training and personal enrichment.

Job
Readiness Skills for Deaf Adults
Develop the skills and strategies needed to secure a job. You will learn to perform a self-assessment of your personal skills; develop a resume and cover letter; and promote yourself through employment searches, interviews, and networking in a competitive job market. You will learn job accommodations under the Title I of Americans with Disabilities Act, and will have access to the Workforce1 Center at LaGuardia for services, including job placement.

Driver
Education for Deaf Adults
This course is designed to
enable Deaf adults to pass the Department of Motor Vehicles
written examination. The instructor will make arrangements
for students to take the examination. Students must be age
17 or older and possess a Social Security Card.

Computer
Skills Program
The program,
which includes four sequential courses, focuces on development
of skill necessary for effective communication in both personal
and professional settings. You will able to build your typing
speed, knowledge of basic computer skills, word processing,
Webpage designing and computer maintenance skills.
Keyboarding
and Telecommunication
Skills
This course prepares Deaf students
who communicate in American Sign Language to use a teletypewriter
device (TTY), a videophone and a computer with Internet access.
It includes computer-assisted instruction in basic keyboarding
skills, enhancement of speed typing, and appropriate etiquette
and techniques of using telecommunication. This course is
a prerequisite for other computer-related and writing classes.

Introduction to
Personal Computers and Basic Word Processing
This course helps Deaf adults who communicate in ASL become familiar with the use of a personal computer and basic word processing applications. You must type at least 20 words per minute and have good English skills. This class is a co-requisite for all computer skills and ASDA Levels III – V writing classes. It will help you find a job or advance in your current job. Students are required to bring an HD 3.5 inch
floppy disk.

Web Page Design for Deaf
Adults
This course provides Deaf adults who communicate in ASL with the capability to create their own Web page and enhances their computer skills as needed on the job. Learn how to build Web pages by using templates, such as Microsoft FrontPage, and by using a text-editor program. Also learn the source language, HTML. To be eligible, students must type at least 20 words per minute. Prerequisite: Introduction to Personal Computers and Basic Word Processing or equivalent experience.

Computer
Maintenance for Deaf Non-Technicians
This user-friendly course helps Deaf non-technicians learn how to fix common problems they face with their own PC. You will learn the vocabulary needed to interact with technical support people. The instructor will also be available to discuss specific problems you may have with your computers at home or in the office. Introduction to Personal Computers and Basic Word Processing or equivalent experience is a prerequisite unless waived.
