You will:
- Review ASLTA certificate requirements and develop a work plan
- Identify and document your teaching experience and history
- Discuss and develop documents of teaching methodology and strategies
- Develop a script for video recording a “teaching sample”
- Review and edit video work
- Finalize the production of your portfolio and video*
*There is application fee ($125.00 for ASLTA members, made payable to ASLTA) when you submit your packet.
Reflect and Collect, Saturday, November 3, 1:30 - 4:30 pm
You will begin by reviewing and discussing an overview of the ASLTA Evaluation and Certification System. Hands-on group work will focus on reflection and collection of teaching experience and work. You will also discuss strategies for organizing data collection and documenting through one-on-one and group mentoring.
Edit Documents, Saturday, November 17, 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Bring your collection of documents to begin your videotaping work. The videotape will include an introduction and documentation of teaching experience, methodology, and strategies. One-on-one and group mentoring will focus on reviewing and editing materials.
Finalize Portfolio and Application, Saturday, December 1, 1:30 - 4:30 pm,
You will review and finalize your portfolio and application. Your videotape will be viewed, edited, and finalized through one-on-one and group mentoring.
Tuition: $300 plus $12 one-time registration fee/A16WKS002 (Attendance to all workshop sessions is required.)
Carole Lazorisak, MA, RID CDI & RSC, ASLTA Professional, Master Mentor, holds a BA in Psychology
from Gallaudet University, MA in Counseling from New York University, and has completed credits toward a doctorate
at Teachers College, Columbia University. Ms. Lazorisak has national certification as a Deaf Certified Interpreter and a
Professional ASL Instructor. She completed her studies in the Master Mentor Certificate Program at University of
Colorado/Northeastern University and is a tenured faculty member of Human Services, Natural and Applied Sciences
Department, at LaGuardia Community College/City University of New York.
- Open to ASL instructors and individuals interested in teaching ASL.
- ASLTA Hours or RID CEUs are available for ASLTA and RID members.
- Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years experience using ASL on a daily basis, at least 1 –2 years ASL teaching experience, and hold current ASLTA membership (associate).
- PDA’s current ASL instructors may be eligible for 50% discount.
