Psychologists are licensed mental health professionals who study human behavior and emotions. They use this base of knowledge to assess, diagnose, and treat mental disorders in people of all ages, using a variety of treatment modalities, including individual, child, family, and group therapies. Approximately 40% of psychologists are self-employed. The remainder works in schools, hospitals, clinics, social service agencies and other settings.
