LaGuardia’s health fair, held November 7 and 8, attracted some 35 representatives from healthcare organizations from across the metropolitan area. Insurance company representatives presented plans that provide affordable health care based on family income.
According to Elizabeth Carde, director of the Health Center, faculty and staff who encourage students to visit health are providing a service to improve the health of the community. LaGuardia’s health fairs, she said, bring toghter resources and information whhich students can use immediately. A health fair is a good place to begin finding answers to a wide variety of students’ health needs.
Students visit the Health Center at MB40 to obtain information on such topics as HIV/AIDS, blood pressure, health care for children, breast cancer, women’s health, insurance, personal counseling, and other services.
Radio station Hot 97 broadcast the importance of the Fair from its mobile studio which was set up on Van Dam Street and 47th Avenue from 2 to 3 p.m. that day. (See photo left.)
