Searching UN Documents

Effective on 31 December 2004, the Official Documents of the United Nations (ODS) became available via the Internet at http://documents.un.org. The good news is this subscription is now available for free. Using one of the United Nations six official languages you can choose to do a "simple" or "advance search". The United Nations hopes to add 100,000 documents per year.

Most documents are available yet the collection is comprehensive but not complete. The collection includes the following documents:

  • Resolutions going back to 1946(Security Council, General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and Trusteeship Council
  • Selected Security Council and General Assembly documents going back to 1985
  • Meeting Records
  • Letters
  • Daily Journals and Bulletins
  • Administrative Tribunal Judgments

The database does not contain the United Nations Treaty Series, UN sales publications, press releases and briefings or information brochures issued by the Department of Public Information.

If you have any questions about searching this database, please contact Alexandra Rojas at X6020.
