Reference

Reference librarians are available to help you use the Library in many ways. They can assist you in searching the Online Catalog. They can help you in locating specific titles in this Library or in other libraries in the Greater Metropolitan Area. They can help you locate factual or statistical information. They can also guide you as you begin your research by recommending appropriate resources--both print and electronic-- and helping you use them.

In the area near the Reference Collection, access to and assistance with using the Internet and World Wide Web are available.

Subject guides and bibliographies are available at the Reference Desk.

Virtual Reference
The Library also provides virtual reference services. You can e-mail a question to the library 24 hours a day, seven days a seek, using the Ask A Librarian link on our home page.

Reference Consultation
Students who need in-depth research assistance can now sign up for one-to-one half-hour sessions with Elizabeth Namei, the reference consultation librarian.

The program was designed for students whose research needs were not being met by the necessarily limited interactions at our very busy reference desk where it is often virtually impossible to go into depth while teaching research skills.

There is a sign-up system behind the reference desk; students need only ask the reference librarian on duty to make an appointment. Students pick an available time and day, fill out a sheet describing their needs, and take a reminder stub away with them. Most of the time, they will receive a reminder e-mail or call.

Students may also call or e-mail Elizabeth Namei directly.

If you have general questions or questions about information resources, please visit the library in person, call the reference desk at (718) 482-5425 or e-mail a librarian.
