(Media - Continued from Page 11) Presently, Media Services is co-producing video production support, for a federally funded grant project that is being administered by the Program for Deaf Adults. A component of the grant is to develop a video targeted for employers, that highlights issues relevant to the successful employment of deaf and hard of hearing employees. Included in the project, is the creation of a dissemination packet that will be sent to the 130 postsecondary mainstream programs described in the 9th edition of The College and Career Programs for Deaf Students Guide, published by Gallaudet University. The video will be completed and available in May 1999. (Terry Parker - Senior Laboratory Technician) Periodicals: News about electronic resources!!! The New York State Library is sponsoring a project to bring electronic resources to the people of the state through access in local libraries. CUNY Libraries are EmpireLink sites as well as the public libraries and other locations throughout the state. The Project started this year with the introduction of the Health Reference Center to the network in January. This is a resource that the CUNY Libraries were receiving through a special arrangement with the New York Public Library so that it is not a new product for CUNY Library users. Within the next couple of months the EmpireLink Project will introduce a collection of over 250 databases negotiated through Dialog@Carl. This collection includes many full text newspaper archives of important titles from across the country such as the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and the Washington Post. There will be many business related resources including some from Standard and Poor's. There will be some medical choices such as HealthStar, and some science databases such as an archive of Science Magazine. Some of these databases will offer full text, some will be bibliographic only, some will operate as directories. Access to all these resources will be found on the CUNY Libraries Web Page http://libraries.cuny.edu and will be available not only in the Library but on all workstations in campus labs and offices. For any additional information, you may contact Prof. Jane Devine (ext. 5415) at the Library. |
