27th Annual Dance On
Camera Film/Video Festival
Set for December 12 & 13, 1998
By Prof. Louise Spain
Film and video are still some of the primary
tools used for the preservation of dance, an art form which otherwise persists only in
brief time and memory. To encourage and recognize efforts in this field, Dance Films
Association has played a leadership role by sponsoring the longest-running; competitive
dance film/video festival in the United States
Entries for the 27th annual Dance on Camera Film/Video Festival, co-sponsored by the Film
Society of Lincoln Center, are now being screened by a committee of judges who are
professionals in the worlds of dance and film. Those entries selected will be shown at
Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater on December 12 and 13, 1998 from 2-5:30 pro. This
year, all of the entries will be made available for screening in the gallery adjoining the
theater. A nationwide tour of the winning entries is being planned as a follow-up to the
festival.
Entries have been submitted from all over the United States, as well as from countries
such as Australia, Brazil, Finland, Switzerland, and Czechoslovakia. The public is invited
to see the results of the competition at the screening in December.
Professor Louise Spain is President of the Board of Directors of Dance Films Association,
and a pre-screening judge for the upcoming Dance on Camera Festival. |
