NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS ADMINISTRATION TO RELEASE NIXON TAPESDuring this past year, we have heard much about the Nixon tapes and whether they should be made public, or be returned to the Nixon family. This controversy has been somewhat resolved by the recent decision of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to make available to the general public 154 hours of Nixon White House tapes recorded between 1971 and 1973. This announcement is good news to historians and other researchers who are anxious to learn more about this controversial period in our history. So far a total of 400 hours of tapes have been made public by NARA. NARA'S ELECTRONIC ACCESS PROJECT MAKING PROGRESSResearchers will be happy to learn that the National Archives and Records Administration continues to place more of its materials online. To access this treasure of information, all you need is a computer and a connection to the |
Internet. Once there, you
can view documents, photographs, maps and drawings. So far there are over 300,000
descriptions and 20,000 digitized items available on the NARA Archival Information
Locator. When this project is completed, you will be able to access all of NARA's
holding through a virtual card catalog. The address to the NARA website is: http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.htmlNEWS FROM THE LAGUARDIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE INSTITUTIONAL ARCHIVESThe Institutional Archives has recently added 70 images
to its photograph collection. Most of these photographs are of faculty and staff and
date back to the 1970s and 1980s. This brings our photograph collection to
