Faculty Activities

Prof. Jane Devine has been working as a researcher for Rock Hill Communications, publishers of Web Feet Guides. She will also be working with the Brooklyn Public Library as a consultant for a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) New York State Grant.



Prof. Francine Egger-Sider attended the 2002 ACRL/NY Symposium entitled: What's in a Name? Defining Our Profession. She has been an active participant in the CUNY Cataloging and Acquisitions Committees to explore conversion issues to the new webased CUNY catalog.



Prof. Kenneth Schlesinger gave three conference presentations during the fall. He and Scott White offered It Depends ... Copyright and Fair Use in an Educational Environment at Montgomery County Community College's 8th Annual Conference on Technology and Education held in Blue Bell, PA. During November, he organized and chaired two panels: Getting a Grip on Realia: Documenting Artifacts of East Village Performance at the American Society for Theatre Research/Theatre Library Association annual conference in Philadelphia, and A Disaster Not Waiting to Happen: Downtown Media Revisits Preservation After September 11th for the Association of Moving Image Archivists in Boston. Mr. Schlesinger was also elected inaugural Board President of Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP).



Marie Spina attended the National Archives Workshop on Documenting September 11, 2001 held in November, 2002. She designed and presented a workshop focusing on different aspects of accessing Library Instruction classes for members of the Metropolitan Library Council (METRO) Special Interest Group on Bibliographic Instruction. She is also working in METRO Special Interest Group on Digital Library Initiatives and Library Web Page Design. She continues her participation in the CUNY Tutorial Working group, with a focus on web design and student instruction.



Scott White, along with Kenneth Schlesinger, presented It Depends ... Copyright and Fair Use in an Educational Environment at the 8th Annual Conference on Technology and Education held at Montgomery County Community College. He also presented a paper at the Counter-Terrorism and Civil Liberties: An Interdisciplinary Conference held from March 18-20, 2003 at Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri.



Prof. Louise Fluk published Part I of "Seeking a Definition of Urban Librarianship in Library Literature: A Selected Bibliography," in Urban Library Journal 11.2 (2002): 33-46. She was a member of the President's Task Force on Redesigning Cooperative Education and is participating in this year's Writing in the Disciplines seminar.
