Electronic Resources Collection

by Prof. Jane Devine

There have been new additions to the Library's electronic collection of resources. Two of these databases deal with literature and one with census and statistical information about New York City. These databases are part of the Library's local collection of online databases and will not be offered via the "Are You Off Campus" link for home use. They will be available anywhere on campus.

Both MAGILLONAUTHORS and MAGILLONLITERATURE are produced by EBSCOHost and appear on the EBSCOHost menu of databases. They share a common interface with and will seem user friendly to anyone
who has used any EBSCOHost product. The two databases complement one another in providing biographical and critical information about authors and their major titles.

InfoShare offers statistical reporting taken from the 1980, 1990, and 2000 Census. In addition it includes some New York City-complied information on health, schools, and housing. Data can be formatted into tables through a guided step-by-step approach. InfoShare can be used off-campus but requires a special log-on to do so. The user ID is laguardiacc and the password is cuny02. This information is given below the link to the database on the Library's home page (www.lagcc.cuny.edu/library)

If you have any questions about these datebases or would like to request a demonstration of one or all, please contact Jane Devine (ext. 5415)

Bibliographic Instruction

Schedule Library Instruction For Your Class
Are your students intimidated by the library?
Struggling with keyword searching in CUNY+Web? Lost in the stacks? Bewildered by EBSCOHost and other periodical databases? Wandering on the Internet? Entangled in the Web?
A class session (or two) in the Library may help demystify library research, reassure your students of the availability of help from librarians, and open their eyes to the information riches available through both the free web and the invisible (library-mediated) web. Each class is tailored to the needs of the particular course and assignment.

To arrange a class in the library, contact Professor Louise Fluk, Coordinator of Instruction, by phone (718-482-5476) or e-mail (fluk@lagcc.cuny.edu), or fill out the interactive online Library Instruction Request Form available at:
