Library Liaison Program 2001-2002

By Scott White

Listed below are college departments and programs and the Library Liaisons assigned to them to serve as contact or resource persons in the Library. This program is important for faculty and their departments because they have a Library representative whom they can contact to answer questions, gather or order supporting curricular materials or help with constructing research

MEDIA LIAISON K. Schlesinger
assignments. The following outlines some of the important relationships Library Liaisons support:

New Course/Program Proposals- Library Faculty are required to sign off on all course proposals to ensure that there is proper coverage of Library and media resources in the collections. For best results, involve your library liaison early in the process so they can assist with research and sign off on the library articulation pages in your proposal.

Book Orders- Library Liaisons are responsible for ensuring that their departments are fairly represented when books are ordered to support teaching and research. Since budgets are limited, librarians will often ask departments if they have any materials they would like to obtain to support their curricula. After departments have submitted book orders, librarians will evaluate titles using subscriptiQn services, book reviews and other media to ensure that a balanced collection awaits users as they perform research.

Web Evaluation- Increasingly, Librarians are called upon to develop web guides, discuss web evaluation and recommend web sites to departments for research support.

Bibliographic Instruction- Your Library Liaison can partner with you to discuss research assignments, plan instruction sessions for your class in the Library classroom and provide guides and instructions for using various information databases.

Accreditation Reports- For departments required to undergo a re-accrediting or re-licensing process, library faculty will assist in evaluating library resources in your discipline for your self study. They can provide bibliographies, lists of full-text resources and media guides. Library Faculty also sometimes meet accrediting teams to discuss library holdings.

Of course, these are only a few of the services we provide. Contact your liaison and see what else we can offer in the Library to support your teaching and to help your students. Contact numbers appear on page 2.
