EBSCOHost is the name of a family of databases now available on the Library's homepage. This collection of 16 databases, acquired for CUNY-wide use, includes academic research products and additional titles that target children, business and health area needs. The listing also includes some databases that originate from other companies but are offered here in an EBSCO enhanced version. All these sources can be accessed through the Library home page at www.lagcc.cuny.edu/library. They are available anywhere on campus and off campus via the remote connection icon "Are You Away From Campus?"
EBSCOHost products are principally known for providing online indexing, abstracting and full-text delivery of magazine and journal sources. Academic Search Primer and its business counterpart Business Source Primer are excellent examples of this. They were chosen to repalce InfoTrac databases formally used by CUNY. These services offer all the conveniences of print, download and email options, links to useful web sites, image collections of people, places and things and many more toots and whistles for exploration.

More specialized EBSCOHost databases such as Health Source: Nursing Academic and Advice for the Patient for the health field and Business Wire News for business subjects provide alternative resources. For the first time, the Library can offer databases designed for younger users. There are databases that may help those members of the LaGuardia community who have families or work with children. Searchasaurus targets elementary grade students; TOPICsearch is intended for junior and high school students.
There are some bonus databases in the EBSCO family as well. ERIC, CINAHL and PsychINFO are all databases created by other organizations. Using them through the EBSCOHost interface, these abstracting services can now link through to any full text available in any of the EBSCOHost databases. This greatly cnhances the usefulness of these resources.
The Library will be offering workshops to help introduce the EBSCOHost family to our faculty and students, so please look for announcements of dates and times. If you have any questions concerning any of the databases, please contact Jane Divine (ext. 5415).
