As most of you are aware, Professor Louise Spain retired as Director of Media Services in January 2000, after 13 years of distinguished service in LaGuardia's Library. I have the privilege of being her successor, though I acknowledge it's a hard act to follow!
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself, and to remind you of Media Services' important contribution to the College, which is to provide multimedia support for our instructional programs. We have a limited annual budget to purchase new videotapes and CD-ROMS to enhance coursework and facilitate faculty instruction. Ideally, we would like to work in tandem with you, in order to respond to your recommendations, as well as to suggest to you appropriate titles and resources in our existing collection of over 2000 properties. In addition, my staff and I are available to research potential purchases in specific subject areas or in development of new courses.
Videotapes are expensive. With your valuable input, we can select carefully in order to maximize use of our collection. I have already been introduced to a number of our heavy users, but look forward to becoming better acquainted with all teaching staff at the College in order to form partnerships to increase access to multimedia resources.
Thank you.

The Library has online renewal available through its Web page. This makes it easy for faculty to renew material without having to bring books back to the library. When you access the Library's home page (http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/library), on the link "Library Units and Services".
First there's a link to "Library Forms" and once you have clicked on that you will see a link to "Renew your books On-line". You can either complete the form or send an e-mail to swhite@lagcc.cuny.edu. Please remember to include your library number from the bottom right hand side of your CUNY ID, and all book barcodes. Within two business days, you will receive confirmation that your books have been renewed. If there is a problem with renewal, we will contact you as soon as possible after you make the request. It's that easy!!!!! If you have questions, please contact me at x5441, or send an email. If you use the service, please let us know what you think of it, and if you have any suggestions for improvement.
