(News from the Units - Continued from Page 8)

The collection itself is composed of many types of publications, ranging from books, to magazines, to pamphlets, reports, microfiche, data files and other non-print materials. The LaGuardia Library is a Federal Depository site and works with the Government Printing Office to bring these resources into the library for the benefit of our students and as a public service to the Western Queens communities. The Library collects those government publications which reflect the schools curriculum needs.

An added development reflects the ongoing conversion of government information onto the web. Many print publications may have a web counterpart available and the catalog entries will reflect that information. Descriptions of titles will include the web URL As we progress toward a web based catalog these URLs will become hot links to the actual web sites. Some recent government publications exist solely on the web and these titles will also appear in the catalog. Instead of appearing under school holdings these items will be listed as university-wide holdings and again links will be active in the new web based version of the catalog. People will be able to link directly to the full text item.

The Library wishes to thank the CUNY Office of Library Services, whose financial assistance made it possible for the Documents Collection to be cataloged.

Fall 1999/Spring 2000 Library Exhibits Season Opens

The 1999/2000 Library Exhibits season has just opened. Currently we have exhibits on Hispanic history and culture, the EMT-Paramedic Program, the Institutional Archives and faculty publications. In the coming months we will present exhibits on Italian history and culture, African-American history, the Dietetics Program and Women's history, to name just a few. If you are interested in doing an exhibit about an event or program, please contact Prof. Ken Riccardi at ext. 5434.

Expanded Media Services

Media Services will now offer classroom delivery and pick-up of equipment and software between the hours of 5 to 10 PM on Fridays, and 2 to 5 PM on Saturdays, in addition to regular library hours. These new service hours have been made possible by the Divisions of Academic Affairs and Continuing Education. Requests for after-hours services should be made in writing in advance for rooms in all buildings - E, C, L, and M - as usual.
