(News from the Units - Continued from Page 9)
The LaGuardia Library is in the process of acquiring the necessary software to enable its Canon Microfilm reader/printer to become a digital workstation. Once it is operational, all the microfilm and microfiche holdings of the Library will be able to be converted into digital format. This means that these resources can easily be downloaded to disc if desired, or e-mailed to a person or workstation. In the past researchers have had to rely on paper copies and hours spent in the library retrieving desired items stored in microform. Now these items can be easily shared. The Library's main microform collections of ERIC Documents and newspapers such as the New York Times back to 1851, will continue to be viable resources for the LaGuardia community for many years to come.
The Library offers instruction on how to use its resources, each class tailored to the needs of a particular course and assignment. Are your students intimidated by the Library? Struggling with keyword searching on CUNY+Plus? Lost among the periodical indexes? Bewildered by the proliferation of electronic databases? Overwhelmed by the intricacies of the Internet? A class session in the Library may help: Contact Professor Louise Fluk, Coordinator of Instruction, at 718-482-5476 (leave a voice mail message if necessary), or at flulg@cunyvm.cuny.edu.
