Trial Databases

I know everyone is busy now, but if you have some time, you might want to check out the Trial Database area: http://www.lagcc.c uny.edu/library/rpa/onlineresearch.htm#trial (new window). It's where we post links to databases we're considering buying. Some of the stuff is pretty interesting. We don't always end up buying the stuff listed here, but if you see something you think we should have, you can always let us know.

Library Workshops

Our Library workshop schedule is up: http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/library/programs.htm
(new window).
Things kick off Tuesday, April 25, with a workshop by yours truly on Curing Your Computer. And if you've ever gotten a million error messages popping up as your computer grinds to a crawl, you know that a lot of times, computers do need to be cured.
This semester, we're raffling off a 256MB flash drive at the end of every workshop, so not only will you learn something, there's also a chance you'll win something!

Google Calendar

I've written about it a lot, so I thought I should mention that Google Calendar is finally live (new window).
It looks pretty cool. It's very easy to add events and it can even send you reminders. But there are a lot of comparable services out there, so I'm not sure what Google Calendar brings to the table other than it's a bit integrated with GMail.
Calendars are a great way to keep your research on schedule.
Another great way to enhance your research?
Making an appointment to speak to a Librarian one-on-one (new window).
So check out both of those options. The end of the semester is closer than you think!

Times Online Redesign

The New York Times launched a re-design of their site yesterday. It's not a huge difference, but it's a definite upgrade.
Here is their note on it (new window).
They're offering things like more video and something interesting called Topic Pages (new window), which are basically articles grouped around certain subjects, like Oprah or the War in Iraq. It's very, very similar to our own Research Guides (new window).
Of course, the Times' guides seem designed to sell articles from their archives. But you can always look at what they list, and then get them for free out of Lexis (new window).
