INSTITUTIONAL ARCHIVESThe Institutional Archives resides in the Library and Media Resource Center of the college. As with other special collection the mission or charge is to collect, arrange, describe and preserve a specific areas relating to the history of LaGuardia Community College and select materials of the City University of New York primarily as they relate to the College.The collection policy includes primary source materials including publications of the college, advertising, artifacts, college catalogs, correspondence, committee and department meeting minutes, newsletters/newspapers, photographs, reports, audio and video cassettes, slides, and yearbooks and course proposals. City University of New York materials dates back to 1926. The LaGuardia Community College collection dates back to 1970 the founding date. LaGuardia was one of the first community colleges in the United States to offer cooperative education (work-study) as part of the academic curriculum. It also was among the first colleges to host high schools on campus and the Middle College High School program among other area of concentration and innovation including the development of the Center for Teaching and Learning, First Year Initiatives and the implementation of the student e-portfolio, and our high enrollment of students who study successfully in English a Second Language as well as our attraction to a large International student body have created an new areas of interest for researchers.
