Step 1: Initial Assessment - NY Designs Contact

+ Determine if suitable space exists
+ Submit two-page executive summary of Business Plan to NY Designs
Step 2: NY Designs Assessment Executive Summary Business Plan
(1) Likely contributor to NY Designs community

+ Design-based products or services
+ Improves diversity of products, processes, and people
+ Fosters synergy by inspiring/interacting with other participants and larger design community
(2) Likely to accomplish goals required by NY Designs funders

+ Increase employment (including independent contractors)
+ Increase revenues
+ Increase private investment
(3) Capable and motivated entrepreneur(s)

+ Legal structure established
+ Sales
(4) Demonstrated financial resources to sustain the business during the startup phase
Step 3: Formal Response to applicant: Go/No Go/Referral to Class
Step 4: Invitation to Submit Full Business Plan for Review

+ NY Designs may recommend one-on-one sessions with business consultant to assist
with business plan development
+ Director reviews business plan and recommends revision or submission to Approval Board
Step 5: Board Review

The Board reviews formal presentation of business plan and supporting documents,
and decides to invite or not. The board consists of members from NY Designs, CUNY
EDC, LaGuardia Community College, Industry and Community Businesses.
Step 6: Invitation to Proceed with the License Agreement
