I would be extremely happy if I were chosen to go on this once in a lifetime trip. To study abroad has been my dream since before I started college. I spent four years in the United States Marines. I know how to navigate anywhere with just a compass and a map (sometimes I don’t even need a compass). I also know how to perform various field expedient health care techniques. This includes how to administer a tourniquet, how to set a broken bone, to how to react if a poisonous insect and or animal bites someone, even how to purify water. Being in the Marine Corps taught me how to basically survive in the wild. I think that I would be a great candidate to bring not only because of my background in these things, but also because I am well-traveled.
I have traveled to many places throughout the globe and intend to keep traveling until there is not left that I haven’t seen. I have visited Amsterdam, Venice, Val Gardenia (Italy), Kaneohe Bay (Hawaii) and a majority of the cities in Japan because I lived there for two years. I am a very respectful person; I respect other people’s cultures and beliefs. I would never do anything to disrespect the native population anywhere I go. I am a very fast learner, so if there is anything that I do not know, I am positive that I will be able to learn quickly and precisely. I know that I am not a Photography major, but I love to take pictures and have always been interested in it. I am an English major because writing comes easily to me and I love to do it. I have a written a special short story for you, and will be glad to give it to you during the interview along with my three letters of recommendation. This type of opportunity only comes along once in a lifetime. I would feel like one of the luckiest people in the world if I was allowed to come. I do have the finances to go (I have already started researching the terrain so I can purchase the proper equipment). I do not know if my pictures are worthy enough to be considered good by a professional, but I am confident that if I do get to go on this trip, the pictures I would take as during the trip would be.
I have always wanted to back-pack through Europe, and the experiences that I would gain by going to Chile would be invaluable to me. I am sure that I will learn so much more than I expect right now, which is why I would be going there with an open mind. I love trying new things and going to new places. I love that this will not just be about experiencing something different, it will be an adventure that I am so ready to go on. I am aware that the physical demands will be high, but I am also confident that I will not have a problem with that. I have already carried a fifty pound pack through the field while in the USMC, and am ready to do it again. Please at least give me a shot so I can prove to you that I can do this, and that I would be a good candidate to bring.
