South America Study Abroad Fall II 2013 (Atacama): 4-5 week study: Jan-Feb 2013 |
Locations and Activities The Atacama group will travel with Professor Hugo Fernandez to Santiago and then North to the Atacama Desert. Santiago is a major metropolitan area with countless restaurants, shops, and cultural sites. In the Atacama Desert, students will have the opportunity to hike in scenic areas such as the Valley of the Moon, and to visit geysers, volcanic hot springs and ancient ruins. While in the Atacama Desert, students will work with the Museo Archeologico R.F Le Paige and may have the opportunity to work with some of the archive's images, notably, those of Robert Mann Gerstmann. The Atacama travels will also include visits to San Pedro de Atacama, Calama and Antofogasta.

Credits and Course info During your stay in Chile, you will pay LaGCC tuition, remain matriculated at LaGCC and receive LaGCC credit for your classes, which allows you to maintain your complete financial aid package. Students enroll into two – three credit courses, Art and Society (an Urban Studies Elective) and Intermediate Photography (or independent study equivalent). Courses will be conducted by Professor Fernandez with some presentations given by Univeridad del Norte faculty, Dr. Arturo Torres. Orientation sessions will be held in Fall I 2012. He will assist you in the registration process, as well as with all your administrative and academic concerns. The Office of International Connections will also serve as the liaison and aid with all concerns, such as visas, etc. |
