The Fall II group will travel with Professor Scott Sternbach and Professor Hugo Fernandez to Patagonia and other City for four-five weeks in January - February 2013. The Patagonia travels may include time in Chilean cities, Pumalin Park, El Chalten and Tierra del Fuego. While there, students will explore the fjords of Patagonia by boat, and pristine mountain and river valley ecosystems while hiking and on bus rides. The Patagonia group will be the guests of Doug and Kris Tompkins, owners of Pumalin Park and other conservation projects in southern Chile.

Credits and Course info


During your stay in Chile, you will pay LaGCC tuition, remain matriculated at LaGCC and receive LaGCC credit for your classes, which allows you to maintain your complete financial aid package. Students enroll into two – three credit courses, in photography or independent study equivalent.

Courses will be conducted by Professor Sternbach . Orientation sessions will be held in Fall I 2012. He will assist you in the registration process, as well as with all your administrative and academic concerns. The Office of International Connections will also serve as the liaison and aid with all concerns, such as visas, etc.

Itinerary and Important Deadlines
2012 Spring I – Recruiting begins for Fall II 2012

July 16th, 2012 – Applications due, applicant interviews will begin August 2012 (DEADLINE EXTENDED)

September, 2012 – Participants chosen, deposits due (10% of total cost.)

November 15th, 2012 – 50% of program cost due.

December 20th, 2012 – Balance of expenses due.

January – February -2013 – Patagonia cohort of 12 students travel to Patagonia with Professor Sternbach and Professor Fernandez.

February 2013 – Cohorts prepare exhibition, post trip evaluations and workshops.
