SUPPORT EDUCATION
|
Contributions to the
LaGuardia Community College Foundation make a
significant difference
in the lives of students in need. Foundation gifts provide direct financial
support and resources to students when they need
help. |

Scholarships
LaGuardia Community College Foundation provides
scholarships to students in financial need. All
the programs at our college are designed to
provide a wide range of learning opportunities
in the areas of academic achievement, personal
growth and career preparation. Your contribution
can help subsidize tuition, cover textbook
expenses, and allow our students to fully take
advantage of all the available resources the
college has to offer. |

Emergency Fund
The emergency fund of the LaGuardia Community College
Foundation is designed to provide immediate assistance
to students in dire financial need. Many or our students
lack resources to pay for basic needs, and struggle to
afford textbooks. An emergency grant can help students
to cover a one-time unaffordable
expense--transportation, books, rent or clothing. Most
recently, we were able to extend emergency loans to
several students who couldn’t afford textbooks. Our help
enabled them to meaningful participate in college
courses. |

Laptop Loaner Program
Since so many of our students cannot afford
personal computers, LaGuardia Community College provides
them with the opportunity to borrow laptop computers.
Each week, over 150 students are in need of laptop
computers. Unfortunately the College only has 50
computers available. Many students are turned away and
struggle to complete their research and papers. Due to
the high demand, the College can only loan computers for
three days at a time, which does not allow sufficient
time for students to complete their assignments. A
donation of $1,500, will enable LaGuardia Community
College to purchase one new loaner laptop computer,
which will help over 100 students a year. |

Smart Classrooms
LaGuardia Community College is currently
operating 46 Smart Classrooms, not enough to meet
student needs. Smart Classrooms allow teachers to use
computer and audio visual learning in standard
classrooms by using technologically advanced computer
software. Teachers can give PowerPoint presentations
displaying technical, scientific and literary data. In
addition, the students themselves can use the Smart
consoles to give presentations, speeches and display
their class projects. In Fall 2007, more than 25,000
students requested classes in Smart Classrooms. Each
Smart Classroom can serve 1,000 students per year. A
generous donation of $15,000 can equip a classroom with
Smart technology. |
