LaGuardia students who participate in Model UN have found that the associated activities enhance their educational experiences. Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations that educates participants on civics, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. In standard Model UN, students take on the roles of diplomats and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization (IGO). In addition, students may simulate other deliberative bodies even if they are completely unrelated to the United Nations or even international affairs. Participant activities include but are not limited to researching a country, taking on roles as diplomats, investigating international issues, debating, deliberating, consulting, and then developing solutions to world problems.
