Fine Art and Design are 2 year programs within the Humanities Department, which lead to an Associate of Science (A. S.) Degree in either Fine Art or Design Arts. These programs offer intense study in studio art and interdisciplinary design concepts in preparation for transfer to four year professional programs upon completion and graduation. Art has always been, and has sown its very roots in the multi cultural reality of Human nature. No human activity or experience is more primal than that which is constructed by the senses, vision, touch etc.

ABOUT US
Fine Art and Design are 2 year programs within the Humanities Department, which lead to an Associate of Science (A. S.) Degree in either Fine Art or Design Arts. These programs offer intense study in studio art and interdisciplinary design concepts in preparation for transfer to four year professional programs upon completion and graduation. Art has always been, and has sown its very roots in the multi cultural reality of Human nature. No human activity or experience is more primal than that which is constructed by the senses, vision, touch etc. and it is through our senses that we learn to “make sense” of the world from the moment we open our eyes. Art, being an extension of our senses stands as the most powerful tool we have which creates and recreates our world.

Our Art and Design programs have been developed for students at all levels who wish to increase their technical skill, aesthetic knowledge, combined with conceptual amalgamation in the disciplines of Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Printmaking, Illustration, 2D and 3D design, Model making, Photography, Digital Photography, Art History, and Art Appreciation.

Our curricula parallels the Foundation and Sophomore years of professional art programs and qualifies our graduates to enter most four year programs as Juniors. The program also provides important hands on" experience within the resources of the New York art world through required cooperative education internships involving Artists, galleries and Museums. Art students receive a great deal of additional experience and skill development in reading, writing, and including Science and Math concepts as well, through the depth of courses such as Art History, Art in New York, Color Theory, the Graphic Narrative, Model making and in particular, the “capstone”, Art and Design Seminar.

Our Art History offerings cover the standard one year “survey” of Art History, and is complemented by specialized high level Art History courses such as African Art, History of Photography, History of Design, Modern Art, and the Art of the Renaissance.

Our Faculty consists of eight Full timers, and 21+ Adjuncts. All of our adjuncts, and some of our full timers teach at other Colleges as well, including Pratt, Cooper Union, Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts, the New School, Yeshiva University, Brooklyn College, York College and others. So not only do our programs parallel the best four year programs, but our faculty does as well. Additionally, students needing to take basic skills and/or ESL courses. may still take several beginning Art courses for full credit while they are doing remedial studies. These courses are officially considered “companion” courses. These courses are Beginning Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Intro to Design, and Computer Art 1.

Welcome to the experience of a lifetime, welcome to the Art department.
