GEAR UP FOR TEACHERS Instructional Strategies Seminars. These seminars brought teachers across grades 7-12 together to provide high quality processional development opportunities linked to reading, writing, and mathematics. For example, one seminar examined how to foster students research and use mock trials in the classroom to teach students how to construct and support an argument evaluate sources, and develop generalizations after examining multiple sources. The seminars, presented in various subject areas b faculty from local colleges, provided an opportunity for teachers to share information and exchange ideas. |

Teaching Matters, Inc. (TMI) TMI provide on-line and face-to-face seminars and in-class assistance for teachers engaged in infusing technology into their classrooms. Topics covered include learning to use the internet; developing projects and student research using the internet as a tool, web quests and desktop publishing. Cross GEAR UP School Dialogues. The School Dialogues, which have continued from last year, bring together faculty from six middle schools, high schools, and colleges in three teams: English and Social Studies; mathematics; and Counseling. The teams meet to examine their roles and determine how they might become more effective change agents within their respective schools. Site Planning Teams. Three site planning teams, which include representatives from the middle schools, their corresponding receiving high school, parents, the Queens Borough Public Library, and GEAR UP staff meet monthly to plan and provide feedback about the program. these regular meetings help GEAR UP know what activities are working well as well as any problem areas that need to be addressed.
