GEAR UP FOR PARENTS

College Coach Visits. Parents are invited to accompany students on the College Coach visits.  In addition, GEAR UP provide a series of College Information Saturdays to parents.  Using the Internet as a research tool, the Director of LaGuardia's College Prep program provided parents with strategies for researching college choice, financial aid, and what is affordable.

College Information Workshop. LaGCC/QUP GEAR-UP offer a parent workshop at LaGuardia Community College for all parents of GEAR UP students.  The workshop, "Gearing Up for College" focus on providing essential information for parents on helping their child move from high school to college.  Topics include: college searches, test preparation, college applications, college selection, and career exploration.

College for Teens Workshop and WORK Program Orientation. Saturdays at the College typically begin with a First Saturday Workshop for parents.  In 2002-2003, the workshop topics included "Helping your Child Succeed in High School" and "Using the Internet."  Staff from the Saturday programs at the college also oriented parents about the programs n which their children were participating.   

THE GEAR UP PROGRAM
