Community College de Santiago Will Open in March 2010

In December 2008, the President of LaGuardia Community College Dr. Gail O. Mellow signed an agreement with Chilean Minister of Education Monica Jimenez de la Jara creating a pilot community college in Chile under the auspices of the Universidad Central with guidance from LaGuardia that will enhance social mobility in Chile. Community College de Santiago will enroll its first cohort of 800 students in March 2010. Dr. Mellow has been elected to the college’s board of trustees, and will speak about the partnership before the North American Chilean Chamber of Commerce in 2010. “This amazing collaboration serves to spotlight the vital role community colleges play in educating the 21st century global workforce,” says Dr. Mellow.
