Workshop Schedule Spring 2007
Welcome
The Division of Enrollment Management & Student Development invites you to participate in a powerful and stimulating program that offers training in leadership skills, and diversity awareness training. The workshops are designed to enhance your classroom and total college experience, while you complete your academic course work. You will be part of a conversation with faculty, staff, and peers, that develops your personal and professional skills. This dialogue will awaken in you, thoughts and goals that you never knew existed. Your time on campus and sense of community will be enriched.

Becoming a Campus Leader Friday, March 16,

Description: LaGuardia Community College provides multiple oppurtunities for students to participate in the govermance of the College. Either by serving on a college-wide committee, joining a student club, or running for student government, the College actively seeks input from students. If you have ever thought of being part of the student leadership team, this session is for you.

Discovering Your Leadership Style Friday, March 23, 2007
Description: Our life experience as well as genetic programming, inform us of our individual stles. From our choice in clothing, music, and friends, to our behavior in groups, our personalities, view of the world and the experience we encounter, shape who we are. This workshop is intended to give particiapnts an oppurtunity to self-assess what their leadership tendencies are, use their strengths appropriately, and explore hidden realtionship possibilities.

Leadership Exploration & Development Friday, March 30, 2007
Description: Few leaders are born... many leaderes are made. Join us in "one of life's required workshops." Leadership development provides confidence and self-awareness, and develops skills important to the daily challenges we face as individuals. Explore areas such as creating a shared vision, goal setting, managing conflict, handling ethical dilemmas, initiating change, empowering others, and team buidling.

Identity and Perception Friday, April 13, 2007
Description: This sessioin will encourage participants to engage in issues such as intimacy; gender, racial and sexual identity; and interpersonal competance within and between cultures. Through dialogue, group activitu and film discussion, we will motivate each other to "stretch beyond our comfort zones."

Communicating Across Difference Friday, April 20, 2007
Description: The purpose of this activity is to provide participants with the oppurtunity to explore themes of identity, culture, and the value of personal and group differences in a non-judgemental environment. By defining and then engaging in dialogue, the session focuses on developing an acceptance and respect for people of different cultural or ethnic backgrounds other than one's own. Participants will come to recognize the power and magic in valuing and appreciating how bringing our differences together, creates the possibility of greatness.

Ethical Leadership Friday, April 27, 2007
Description: Often leaders are faced with difficult ethical decisions that quesetion their leadership ability. This is a chance to explore issues that you might not have considered in the past. Learn how to enhance your skills in creating a sound and principled leadership style, by developing behaviors that match what you say and do with what you believe.

Description: This financial session will encompass developing the right attitudes about money, information, and strategies for healthy personal financial management. The topics included will be budgeting, credit management, relationships with financial service providers and planning for a successful future.

Marketing Yourself Friday, May 11, 2007
Description: Acknowledging our abilities, and promoting our skills & experience can be an uncomfortable experience. Having the freedom and confidence to thoughtfully express who we are and what we have to offer, is an art that requires considerable practice. this workshop offers participants a chance to recognize and highlight their abilities, and then fashion a performance that creates extraordinary oppurtunities.

International Conversation Circle Thursdays, March - May 2007
Description: Here's an opportunity to socialize and discuss international issues with your fellow students. Also, a chance to practice English listening and speaking skills in a friendly environment. each session, a topic is presented by a member of the LGuardia Community. which is then followed by discussion.
