Nicholas Hirshon, an adjunct journalism instructor at LaGuardia since 2009, reports for the New York Daily News. He also authored the 2010 book "Images of America: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum," the first volume on the premier sports and entertainment arena on Long Island.
Hirshon's coverage of historic sites in the New York City borough of Queens earned him the 2010 Friend in the Media Award from a prominent preservation group, the Historic Districts Council. He has penned two well-received series on Queens' past, sparking efforts to landmark or post signage at notable sites. His work has also appeared in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Contra Costa (Calif.) Times, Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Hockey News, Long Island Press, Montreal Gazette, Naples (Fla.) Daily News, New York Amsterdam News, San Luis Obispo (Calif.) Tribune, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Tampa Tribune, Queens (N.Y.) Courier, Queens (N.Y.) Ledger and Yahoo! Sports.
A native of New York City, Hirshon teaches journalism at both LaGuardia and St. John's University. He serves as a mentor to the LaGuardia student newspaper, the Bridge. He holds a Master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where his Master's project examined the possibly harmful health effects of cell phone use.
