LaGuardia Community College, like all CUNY schools, is required to maintain a certain degree of environmental integrity. We are mandated by The Environmental Protection Agency, The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, and other related agencies to ensure that all measures are taken to provide a safe, clean, and healthy campus environment; not only for the benefit of students, faculty, and staff, but for the community as a whole. By upholding a rigid system of regulations and subsequent repercussions for non-compliance, these agencies manage each institution with an invisible hand, thereby making sure that we adhere to the laws of the environment, which cannot speak for itself.
To monitor the effectiveness of our Environmental Programs, an auditing process has been enacted by the these agencies which assesses the hazards associated with violations of regulatory practices. LaGuardia Community College underwent an audit in November 2006 and due to the hard work of faculty, staff, and the student body, we passed with flying colors. However, it is important to continue to sustain the environmental compliance to prevent incompliance in the future; and moreover to sustain the safe campus environment we have grown accustomed to. To this extent, CUNY has established an internal Environemental Audit Program.
It is imperative that every member of the LaGuardia community play their part in guaranteeing a better future for the next generation of students. We can achieve this by working together toward creating a clean, green and safe campus that we can all be proud to be a component of.
