Barack Obama wrote the memoir Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance in 1994 when he was thirty-three years old.  In this text, he discusses where and how he has lived and what he has learned in the different locations of his life --  Hawaii, Indonesia, California, New York, Chicago, and Kenya.  Obama describes his inner struggles, his search to understand himself as a black man in America, and how his various journeys, both throughout the world and within himself, have helped him to find his identity, construct his beliefs, and inform his values.

Working on this website has helped us to think more deeply about Dreams from My Father.  We hope that it will help you as well, but even more, we hope that you will read this book with pleasure, and that it will inspire you to learn more about Obama, about the U.S., about the world and all of its peoples, and, of course, about yourself.    Enjoy!
