About Us
The mission of the Making Connections National Resource Center is to strengthen our internal work around reflective learning and to develop mechanisms for more systematic exchanges within higher education. The Center operates on two levels:
These two levels of work mutually inform each other. The national and international outreach draws strength from the success of our local work with ePortfolio learning and professional inquiry. Our local work benefits from the sustained engagement with national thinkers and educational leaders.
Some of the core activities of the Making Connections National Resource Center include:
The Making Connections: An ePortfolio Mini-Grant & Seminar Program
This Seminar was launched in January 2008 with initial support from the Fund for
Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) of the U.S. Department of Education.
It builds on LaGuardia’s foundation as a nationally recognized leader in the field
to broaden the use of ePortfolios to colleges from NYC metropolitan area.
The year-long seminar helps participating 2-year and 4-year colleges to
collaboratively develop and test plans for using ePortfolio. The seminar highlights
new ways to enhance student learning and address issues of transfer, employment
and assessment.
The Making Connections ePortfolio Conference
Making Connections: ePortfolio, Integrative Learning, and Assessment Conference
was held at LaGuardia’s bustling New York City campus on April 11-12, 2008.
The conference drew leaders in the field from across the country and LaGuardia
students and faculty showcased their groundbreaking innovations.
The Making Connections conference proved to be a unique opportunity
to examine the practice and promise of this transformative learning tool.
The next conference will be held in the Spring of 2010. Please check back for more
details and call for proposals at a later date.
