About a month before classes begin, students are mailed a schedule of course offerings at LaGuardia for the following semester. They are asked to list three courses choices and to fill out the application which is enclosed in the packet. Their eligibility is checked by the College Now staff, which does its best to enroll the students in their preferred course. Students are responsible for getting to the College and must realize that the College calendar differs from that of the high school. Courses taken through College Connection are free, but students need to buy textbooks, supplies and fund their own transportation costs. Prior to the beginning of the semester, students are invited to the College for Orientation. At that meeting, they are given their class assignments; they tour the College and obtain College I.D.'s; they learn about college life. We expect that many College Now students will have taken and satisfactorily completed introductory college-credit bearing courses in their high schools. They may wish to pursue more advanced electives, but should carefully check the prerequisites listed for each credit-bearing College Connection course. See course descriptions for entry requirements for each credit-bearing College Connection course. Note: For students needing to strengthen their academic skills, College Connection offers non-college-credit bearing courses. See course descriptions for entry requirements for each non-college credit bearing College Connection course.
