New Student Orientation:
Once admitted to College Discovery, students are invited
to an orientation that introduces them to the College and
the Program and provides vital information on the eligibility
requirements that must be met prior to the student's first
semester. It also gives the students the opportunity to
meet program staff, get their questions answered, and sign
up for any needed basic skills express classes in advance.
First Year Institute:
Before their first semester at college, all CD students
are required to attend a comprehensive program which includes
a seminar on academic preparation, career exploration and
financial aid planning. Placement test scores will determine
if students are required to take a basic skills express
class in reading, writing, math, or English as a Second
Language (ESL) at that time. All CD students who are found
financially eligible will receive additional funds for completing
this program.
New Student Seminar: In
their first semester, CD students register for a one-hour
weekly course taught by a CD counselor. The course provides
students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful
in college, such as college policies, academic requirements,
stress and time management, and effective learning and study
strategies. The students also engage in career exploration
and academic planning.
