Become a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) and help make a difference in people’s lives. Offered in partnership with Community Partnership Referrals and Resources (CPRR), this program fulfills the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) addiction counselor certificate requirements for 350 hours of specific topics for credentialing or re-credentialing. Upon successful completion of both courses, you will be eligible to apply for OASAS’ CASAC-Trainee (CASAC-T) program. Students can receive 8 college credits for completion of this program.

Dietary Manager Program

Certified Dietary Managers are nationally recognized experts at managing dietary operations. The LaGuardia ACE Dietary Managers Program provides training for people already working in a healthcare food service facility to continue up the career ladder. To qualify for the Dietary Managers Evening Program, you must:

  1. Have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
  2. Be currently working in a food service department
  3. Have a registered dietitian who will act as your preceptor.

The program is presented in three modules: fall, winter and spring. Each module runs for 10 weeks and includes 40 hours of lecture plus 50 hours of supervised fieldwork at the work site. Upon successful completion of the program, you are eligible to sit for the certification examination.

Healthcare Interpreting Certificate Program
Level 1 Qualification
 
Learn basic interpreter skills, such as building a personal glossary, and practice medical interpretation through role play. You will also prepare for the national Language Line Interpreter Skills Test. Language Line Test fee and books are included in course tuition. Prerequisite: High school or GED diploma and passing the Language Diagnostic Exam. Level 2 Qualification 
Strengthen your medical terminology through this advanced, intensive course that focuses on healthcare service areas and body systems. Learn techniques for researching and managing new medical vocabulary. This is the first of three courses required for Level 2 certification. Prerequisite: Passing score on Language Line Interpreter Skills Test or equivalent work experience.

Personal Trainer Certification Preparation

Become a Personal Trainer and start a career in a field with growth potential. Attend morning lecture at LaGuardia Community College and afternoon practical training at an offsite health club. Learn bio-mechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage, and health assessment. In order to earn the World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.) nationally recognized certificate, you must complete the Personal Trainer Certification course, pass the W.I.T.S. national exam, obtain your CPR/AED certification, and complete a 30 hour internship at a local gym. This course is offered in partnership with W.I.T.S. CPR/AED certification and textbook are not included. To order required textbook, call (888) 330-9487 to start reading material before start of class. Pre-requisite: High school diploma or GED.
