2006 Power Outage in Long Island City
Survey of Economic and Health Impacts
The LaGuardia Community College Centers for Economic Development and the Energy and Climate Center of Pace University have been engaged by the New York State Public Service Commission to study the economic and health impacts of the 2006 power outage.
Students from LaGuardia Community College are meeting with community members and conducting in-person interviews. Additionally, telephone interviews will be conducted.
Surveys are being done throughout the impacted communities. This includes surveying residents on the street, meeting with businesses operators and meeting with community groups. The intention is to reach out to all sectors of the community so that the data collected reflects the wide range of social, ethnic and age groups that comprise Western Queens. The Director of the survey project is Jon Saul, a long time member of the LaGuardia faculty.
