Most people in the world know Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., or Al Gore, as the Vice President of the United States of America during the Clinton-Gore Administration (1993-2000). Highlights of Al Gore's Life Relevant to An Inconvenient Truth
- Born in 1948. As a child, his time is divided between life in the city (Washington D.C.) and life in the country (Carthage, Tennessee).
- 1965-1969: He attends Harvard University, where he takes two science classes with Professor Roger Revelle.
- 1977-1993: Like his father before him, he becomes first a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and then a U.S. Senator for Tennessee. He invites Professor Roger Revelle to report on CO2 levels to Congress, effectively initiating the discussion of global warming.
- 1989: His six-year-old son is almost killed by a car. This accident causes him to reevaluate his life. He decides to make the environment a focus of his public service.
- 1992: He publishes Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit, the basis for his slideshow and An Inconvenient Truth.
- 1993: He becomes the 45th Vice President of the United States. Throughout his tenure, he helps launch several environmental initiatives online as an overview of his environmental record at his official White House page.
- 2000: He runs against George W. Bush in the U.S. presidential election.
- 2004: He launches the investment firm Generation Investment Management to invest in 30 to 50 companies that are ethical and sustainable. .
- 2006: He stars in the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth: A Global Warning and publishes An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warning and What We Can Do about It. He also begins training 1,000 speakers to deliver his presentation on global warming as part of The Climate Project.
- 2007: He announces the Virgin Earth Challenge, " a prize of $25m for...a commercially viable design which results in the removal of anthropogenic, atmospheric greenhouse gases so as to contribute materially to the stability of Earth's climate" and the Live Earth series of concerts to promote action against global warming. An Inconvenient Truth wins the 2007 Academy Award for best documentary. Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
