The ASL-English Interpretation Program was awarded NY State Education Department funding to design and construct its Multimedia Interpreting/Language Lab. The program maintains this beautifully furnished lab, completely custom designed with pull-out privacy panels, sound proof surfacing, and lighting. In the summer of 2010, the lab was upgraded to a fully digital format. A new state-of-the-art design utilizing Mac technology is now in place. All interpreting process skills courses and advanced language offerings are held here. The design includes 12 Student Work Stations, each outfitted with high-end 27 inch iMac computers and microphone/headset units. A Mac Pro server at the Instructor Station includes Apple Remote Desktop software used to interface with each student station. This new technology also allows students to:
practice interpreting from ASL to spoken English and from spoken English to ASL watch/listen to a video, pause to record, then continue with the video watch/listen and record simultaneously edit videos create/maintain ePortfolios access the internet submit assignments electronically
