ACADEMY COORDINATORS

Academy Coordinators are located in Room B-100.  The First Year phase of advisement, "Becoming a Student" - "First Year Academy Advisement", is defined as advisement during the first two semesters at the College, when students are enrolled in the First Year Academies.  All majors at LaGuardia are broken down into one of three Academies: 1. Liberal Arts; 2. Business and Technology; or 3. Health, Mathematics and Science.

Academy Coordinators are professionally-trained advisors who are responsible for guiding students and offering them every opportunity for achieving academic success.  As such, they provide one-on-one advisement sessions, conduct free academic success workshops and engage students who may be in need of interventions to stay on track.  Academy Coordinators also assist Student Affairs to enroll students when they first arrive at the college in the process known as NSAR (New Student Advisement & Registration).

Students with 30 credits or less and all students who are completing basic skills courses (except those students in special programs) are assigned an Academy Coordinator.  Students in this category have a 1Y stop placed on their record and are mandated to meet with their Academy Coordinator for advisement.

For more information please contact the First Year Academy Coordinator.
