ACADEMIC SUPPORT

All students at LaGuardia Community College benefit from a comprehensive college-wide system of developmental academic advising and counseling.  Through this system, students connect their educational and career goals.

There are four primary advising groups at the college.  The majority of students will work with advisors or counselors in these four areas, depending on where they are in their academic journey.  Generally speaking, Educational Planners prepare and advise students when they first arrive at the college, Counselors conduct freshmen seminars in their first semester (and advise readmitted and probationary students) and First Year Academy Coordinators discuss students' current academic progress, review degree requirements, and help students decide on courses to select from their second semester and beyond.  Finally, Academic Advising Coordinators work with faculty to ensure that students who have completed their basic skills and at least 30 credits round out their academic and career planning and prepare for transfer.

In addition, there are several "Special Programs" on campus who provide a case management approach to guiding students through their LaGuardia experience (these programs generally advise students from the day they arrive until the day they graduate).  Please see the list entitled "SPECIAL PROGRAMS" for more information.

Finally, the "Support Services" tab will connect you with a number of different services available for students.  Note that there is some overlap here with Advising Groups and Special Programs.  Our intention is for the tab to link you to important areas quickly and efficiently.

NOTE:  ALL STUDENTS MAY SEE WHO THEIR ADVISOR IS BY LOOKING AT THE TOP, RIGHT-HAND CORNER OF THEIR DEGREEWORKS AUDITS.
