ALLIED HEALTH CANDIDACY GUIDELINES
Below are the candidacy guidelines for each major that requires pre-clinical courses. Students are unable to apply for candidacy and take clinical courses unless they meet all the requirements for their specific major.
Dietetic Technician
Students must be registered or have taken the four key courses (ENG 101, SCD 200, SCB 203 and SCC 210) in the semester that they are applying for candidacy. Students must receive a C or better in their key courses to be eligible for candidacy. Students must be a DT major to apply for candidacy.
Candidacy Code:4699 (DTP 000); students can apply for candidacy on-line through e-SIMS or in person in C-107 (Registrar). Students can apply for candidacy in Spring I semester (once a year). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 (30 students get accepted into the program once per year).

Nursing (RN)
Students must take four key courses (ENG 101, SSY 101, SCB 203 and SCC 210). In addition, students need to have taken and passed SCB 204 prior to starting the clinical phase. SCB 204 is not a key course but it is a pre-clinical course.
Candidacy Code: 4399 (NUR 000); students have to go to C-107 (Registrar) to complete application for candidacy. Students can apply fo candidacy in either Fall I or Spring I semester (twice a year). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
BEGINNING FALL 2010
STEP 1: New freshman interested in RN Major: Apply to College as "Undeclared Health Majors" (470). Transfer students require a minimum general GPA of 2.5
STEP2: Minimum GPA 2.75 in KEY COURSES to apply for candidacy. However, it is strongly suggested that students obtain a GPA of 3.7 in KEY COURSES since these are weighted most heavily in the Ranking Formula. Seats are competitive and are determined by rank order (approximately 60-70 students get accepted into the program).
Students will automatically become RN (Nursing 471) majors when they are accepted into the clinical phase.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)
Students must take four key courses (ENG 101, SSY 101, SCB 203 and SCN 195). Students must be an OTA major to apply for candidacy.
Candidacy Code: 4299 (OTA 000); students can apply for candidacy on-line through e-SIMS. Students can apply for candidacy in either Fall I or Spring I semester (twice a year). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 (20 students per a section get accepted into the program every semester).

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
Students must be registered or have taken the four key courses (ENG 101, SSY 101, SCB 203 and SCN 195) in the semester that they are applying for candidacy. Students must be a PTA major to apply for candidacy.
Candidacy Code: 4499 (PTA 000); students can apply for candidacy on-line through e-SIMS or in person in C-107 (Registrar). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
Students can apply for candidacy in either Fall I or Spring I semester (twice a year). Students are notifiied two weeks after completion of the 12 week session and then start the clinical phase in the following 6 week session.
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 (20 students get accepted into the program twice per year).

Practical Nursing (LPN)
Students must take four key courses (ENG 101, SSY 101, SCB 203 and MAT 106). In addition, students need to be registered for SCB 204 prior to applying for candidacy and pass the class. SCB 204 is not a key course but it is a pre-clinical course.
Candidacy Code: 4199 (LPN 000); students have to go to C-107 (Registrar) to apply for candidacy. Students can apply for candidacy in Spring I semester only (once a year). It is a 10 month program (September through June). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 (120 students get accepted into the program)
*** Students looking to transfer into the LPN major need a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students must have taken two of the four KEY COURSES before changing their major to LPN.

Veterinary Technology (FALL '10 and beyond)
Students must take four key courses (ENG 101, MAT 106, SCC 210 and SCV 101). In addition, students must take either a Humanities or Social Science elective from the curriculum and need to be registered for SCB 208 in Fall I or II prior to applying for candidacy..
Candidacy Code: 4599 (VTA 000); students can apply for candidacy on-line through e-SIMS. Students can apply for candidacy in Fall I semester only (once a year). Students are able to apply for candidacy after the deadline to add classes, but before the deadline for candidacy.
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 (top 48 students get accepted into the program)

Radiologic Technology
Students must take four key courses (ENG 101, SCB 203, MAT 115 and SSN 187).
Candidacy Code: 4899 (RAD 000)
Minimum GPA requirements: 2.5 in KEY COURSES. No grade lower than a C- will be accepted for science courses (SCB 203/204).
Students who are accepted for candidacy and advised by the Radiology Technology program director will progress to the clinical phase of the program. Students who are not accepted for candidacy will not be eligible to register for courses in the clinical phase of the Radiology Technology program.
